BSc Geography and Sport & Physical Education
About this course
Geography and sport and physical education may seem like distinct fields, but they are linked by a common concern with how people interact with places, environments, and communities. Geography is a broad discipline that examines both the physical processes that shape the natural world and the human dimensions of how people organise their lives in space: how cities develop, how landscapes evolve, how environmental challenges such as climate change, flooding, and biodiversity loss can be understood and managed. Sport and physical education adds a focus on the social and cultural dimensions of physical activity, and on how physical learning is designed and delivered. At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year, full-time programme allows you to explore both disciplines with genuine depth. The geography strand develops your understanding of physical and environmental processes, human geography, and the intersection of people and their environments, drawing on fieldwork as well as theoretical and analytical study. The sport and physical education strand examines how sport functions in society, how physical activity is taught and coached, and how communities engage with physical education across different settings and populations. The programme includes a sandwich placement year for extended professional experience, a year abroad to study in a different geographic and cultural context, and work placement throughout the course. A typical entry tariff of 120 points reflects an accessible admissions threshold. Graduates from this combination are well placed for careers in teaching, sports development, coaching, outdoor education, environmental management, urban planning, health promotion, and community work. The blend of environmental awareness and educational skills is particularly valuable in roles that connect physical activity with health, community, and the natural environment. Postgraduate study in geography, environmental management, education, or sports science is a natural next step for those who wish to specialise.
