MSci Geography with Innovation
About this course
Geography with innovation is a programme that combines the broad intellectual scope of human and physical geography with an explicit focus on the creative and entrepreneurial thinking needed to address the complex problems of the twenty-first century. Geography is an integrative discipline, sitting at the intersection of the natural and social sciences, and examining how human societies interact with the physical environment across scales from local to global. The innovation dimension adds a focus on translating geographical understanding into new products, services and ways of working that address real challenges. At the University of Bristol, this four-year programme is designed to develop innovators who can think across arts, science, engineering, humanities and enterprise. You will develop a thorough understanding of human and physical geography alongside the skills to work in teams, across specialisms and cultures, and to translate analysis into practical interventions and innovations. Bristol's position as a research-intensive university in the South West, with strong connections to both environmental and commercial sectors, provides a rich context for developing the kind of cross-disciplinary thinking the programme values. Geography with innovation graduates are well placed for careers in sustainability and environmental consultancy, urban planning, international development, social enterprise, technology and social innovation, policy, education and research. The combination of geographical analysis and innovative problem-solving is valued by a growing range of employers who need graduates who can think across disciplines and translate evidence into action. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in geography, sustainability, urban design, environmental management or a specialist innovation field. The programme is particularly suited to students who want their geographical training to be connected to making a tangible difference in the world.
