BA Golf Management
About this course
Golf management sits within the broader field of sport management but addresses the specific operational, commercial, and hospitality dimensions of one of the world's most widely played and commercially significant sports. Scotland in particular has a unique relationship with golf, as the country where the sport originated and home to some of the world's most celebrated courses. Managing a golf facility involves understanding course maintenance, tournament organisation, retail and hospitality operations, membership management, and the business of a sport that spans professional tour events, club golf, and leisure markets. Effective golf management requires both business acumen and specialist knowledge of the sport's culture and infrastructure. At the University of the Highlands and Islands, this four-year programme prepares you for a career in a sector that is deeply embedded in Scottish identity and significant in both tourism and leisure terms. You will study the principles of sport management, business administration, hospitality, event management, and golf operations, developing the practical and analytical skills needed to manage complex sport and leisure facilities. The Highlands and Islands setting gives the programme a distinctive connection to the landscape and tourism context in which so much of Scottish golf operates, and the programme is designed to develop professionally ready graduates who understand both the business and the culture of the sport. Golf management graduates are well placed for careers in the golf and sport leisure industry across the UK and internationally. Roles include golf club manager, golf operations manager, events coordinator, and hospitality manager within golf facilities and resort properties. Many graduates work with leading club operators, hotel resorts with golf facilities, and national governing bodies. The business and management skills developed by the degree also transfer into broader sport management, hospitality management, and events management roles beyond golf. Postgraduate study in sport management, hospitality, or leisure management is available for those who wish to develop their qualifications further or move into more senior strategic positions.
