BA International Business and HRM
About this course
International business and human resource management is a combination that reflects how both strategy and people are at the core of any organisation that operates across borders. International business examines how firms compete and collaborate in global markets, how trade, investment, and cultural differences shape commercial decisions, and what it means to manage an enterprise when its operations, customers, and workforce span multiple countries. Human resource management addresses the people dimension of those organisations, concerned with attracting, developing, and retaining talent, managing employment relations, and building cultures and structures in which people can work effectively. At Glasgow Caledonian University, this four-year, full-time degree brings both disciplines together in a rigorous and professionally focused programme. You will study international business strategy, global marketing, cross-cultural management, and the economics of international trade alongside the foundations of HRM, including employment relations, talent management, organisational behaviour, and the legal and ethical frameworks governing work. The programme develops your capacity to think strategically about people and organisations in an international context, and to apply both commercial and people-management skills to real-world challenges. Glasgow Caledonian also offers a direct entry route into year three for students who have completed a relevant Higher National Diploma, allowing qualified college graduates to complete the honours degree within two years. Graduates of international business and HRM are well placed for careers in multinational organisations, management consultancies, international NGOs, public sector bodies, and any employer operating across borders. Roles in HR business partnering, talent acquisition, international recruitment, global mobility, and commercial management are all common career paths. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in human resource management, business administration, or organisational behaviour, and professional qualifications such as the CIPD are a natural complement to the degree for those entering the HR profession.
