BSc International Business (with Foundation Year)
About this course
International business is the study of commercial activity that crosses national borders, and of the strategic, cultural, and regulatory complexities that come with operating in multiple countries simultaneously. It is a field that has grown enormously in importance as trade, investment, and production have become ever more globally integrated, and as businesses of all sizes find themselves operating in environments shaped by different legal systems, currencies, cultural norms, and political conditions. At the University of Bedfordshire, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, providing an accessible entry point for students building the academic foundations they need before the main degree. The programme has a distinctively global perspective, with specialised focus on international trade and investment, international business negotiations, and cross-cultural management. These areas address the practical challenges that graduates working in international contexts actually face: how to negotiate across cultural differences, how to understand and navigate trade frameworks, and how to manage people and organisations that span multiple national contexts. You will also study the core business disciplines, including strategy, marketing, finance, and operations, giving you the commercial grounding that international business roles require. Graduates of international business programmes are sought after by multinational companies, international consultancies, trade and investment agencies, government departments with international responsibilities, and NGOs working across borders. Roles in export management, international marketing, global supply chain management, business development, and cross-cultural consulting are all natural destinations. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study in international business, global management, or an MBA, building on their undergraduate training to develop the strategic leadership skills that more senior international roles demand.
