BA International Business (with Placement Year)
About this course
International business is the study of how organisations operate, compete and collaborate across national borders. It extends core business management disciplines, including strategy, finance, marketing and operations, into the international arena, asking how cultural differences, regulatory diversity, exchange rate risk, global supply chains and geopolitical uncertainty shape commercial decisions and organisational behaviour. As trade and investment increasingly cross borders, the ability to think and work across different national and cultural contexts has become one of the most valuable capabilities in the global economy. At the University of Hull, this four-year full-time programme with placement year is directly built around preparing you for that reality. You will develop cross-cultural awareness, social intelligence and adaptability alongside technical business knowledge, building the kind of versatile professional competence that international employers seek. The placement year provides a substantial period of real work experience, whether in a UK company with international operations or in an international setting, giving you the practical context to apply what you have learned and the professional skills that only experience provides. You will study international business strategy, global marketing, international finance, cross-cultural management, global supply chain management and the regulatory and political environments in which international businesses operate. Case studies and projects drawn from real international contexts are used throughout to keep the learning grounded and relevant. Graduates go into careers in international business development, global marketing, supply chain management, trade finance, international consulting, export management, diplomacy and international organisations. The combination of business skills and international orientation is valued across all sectors that operate or compete globally. Further study in international business, global management or an MBA is a common option for those who want to accelerate their development into senior roles.
