BA Journalism
About this course
Journalism is the practice of investigating, verifying, and reporting on matters of public interest, communicating complex information clearly and fairly to diverse audiences. It is a discipline that requires intellectual curiosity, commitment to accuracy and fairness, the ability to work under pressure and to deadline, and an understanding of the ethical and legal frameworks that govern responsible reporting. In an era of information abundance and concern about misinformation, the skills of careful journalism are more important and more valued than ever. At the University of Lincoln, this three-year, full-time degree is accredited by a professional industry body and is designed to prepare you for producing news content to print or broadcast standard, putting journalistic theory into practice through the researching and crafting of real stories. You will develop skills in news writing, interviewing, reporting, editing, media law, and the use of digital tools and platforms that have transformed how journalism is produced and consumed. A sandwich year and work placement are both available, giving you the opportunity to gain real professional experience in newsrooms or media organisations before you graduate. The typical entry tariff of 120 points reflects an accessible approach to admissions for a practically oriented degree. Journalism graduates work in newspapers, online news organisations, broadcast television and radio, magazines, and the growing field of digital media and content creation. Many also move into public relations and communications roles, where the writing and research skills of journalism are directly relevant. The industry accreditation of the Lincoln programme means that your qualification is recognised by employers as meeting professional standards. Many graduates also go on to specialist postgraduate study in journalism, broadcast journalism, or a specialist area such as political reporting, science journalism, or data journalism.
