LLB Law
About this course
Law is one of the most intellectually demanding and socially significant disciplines available at degree level. It examines the systems, principles, and structures that regulate social life, resolve disputes, define rights and obligations, and distribute power and accountability within society. Studying law develops rigorous analytical thinking, the ability to construct and evaluate complex arguments, skills in research and written communication, and the confidence to engage with difficult and contested questions about justice, authority, and rights. This part-time LLB programme at Leeds Beckett University allows you to study law while managing other commitments, making it accessible to those who cannot pursue a full-time route. You will explore the systems, structures, and principles that shape everyday life, learning to question and challenge them as well as to apply them. The programme includes a sandwich placement year and a year abroad, alongside embedded work placement opportunities, which together give you professional experience in a legal or relevant professional context and exposure to law and legal systems in another jurisdiction. These features are especially valuable for students pursuing a career in law, as legal employers value evidence of practical understanding and professional readiness. A law degree opens routes into the legal profession through further vocational training, whether as a solicitor via the Solicitors Qualifying Exam or as a barrister via the Bar Professional Training Course. Beyond the legal profession itself, law graduates are valued in business, finance, public administration, human resources, compliance, journalism, politics, and a wide range of advisory and management roles where strong analytical and communication skills are at a premium. Further study at postgraduate level in law or a related specialism is also a common path.
