LLB Law
About this course
Law reaches into almost every corner of human life. From the agreements made between businesses to the protections afforded to individuals against state power, from the rules that govern employment to the frameworks that regulate international trade and human rights, law is the system through which society sets expectations, resolves disputes and enforces accountability. Studying it develops rigorous analytical thinking, careful interpretation of complex texts and the ability to construct and challenge arguments under conditions where clarity and precision matter enormously. At Queen Mary University of London, this three-year full-time programme provides a thorough grounding in the English legal system and the core subjects that any serious legal education requires, including contract law, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, tort, equity and property. Beyond these foundations, you will encounter the full breadth and depth of law as a discipline, engaging with the philosophical foundations of legal systems, the social and political forces that shape legal development, and the ways in which law operates differently across different contexts and jurisdictions. Queen Mary's location in London gives you access to the full range of the legal profession and to the courts, firms, chambers and institutions that make the city a global centre for legal activity. You will develop close reading skills, precise written argument, the ability to identify and apply relevant principles to new situations, and the intellectual stamina to work through complex problems methodically. These capabilities are valued not only in legal practice but across many fields where analytical intelligence and rigorous communication are required. Graduates go on to qualify as solicitors or barristers, work in the civil service, finance, compliance, journalism, politics and international organisations, or pursue postgraduate study in law, public policy or related disciplines. A law degree from a strong institution like Queen Mary opens a wide range of doors.
