LLB Law Senior Status
About this course
Law Senior Status is a two-year, accelerated law degree designed for graduates who already hold a degree in another subject and wish to qualify in law. It covers the same qualifying law subjects as a standard three-year LLB, compressed into a demanding two-year full-time programme. This route has a long tradition in English legal education and is well recognised by the legal profession as preparation for the vocational stage of legal training. At Nottingham Trent University, the Senior Status programme allows you to complete your qualifying law degree without repeating the broader academic experience of a three-year undergraduate programme. NTU has a well-regarded law school with strong connections to the legal profession in the East Midlands and nationally. Across the two years you will cover the core foundations of English law: contract law, tort, criminal law, land law, equity and trusts, public law, and the European Union and its relationship to UK law. Legal research and writing skills, mooting, and professional legal reasoning are developed alongside the substantive law content. The intensive nature of the programme requires strong organisational skills and academic resilience. A typical entry tariff of 120 UCAS points applies to entry to the programme. Law Senior Status produces graduates who bring the intellectual breadth and maturity of a prior degree alongside a thorough grounding in English law. Employers and vocational training providers recognise this combination as a distinctive strength. Graduates proceed to the vocational stage of legal qualification, whether through the Bar Training Course for aspiring barristers or the Solicitors Qualifying Examination route to becoming a solicitor. Others use the law qualification in paralegal roles, compliance, the civil service, the judiciary, or legal publishing. The Senior Status route is a well-established and respected pathway into the legal profession.
