Law is both a practical discipline and a profound intellectual one, asking how societies organise themselves, how disputes are resolved, and what values underpin the rules that bind communities together. A law degree trains you to think precisely and argue rigorously, to read and interpret complex texts, to understand institutions and their limits, and to apply principles to novel facts. This three-year full-time LLB at Sheffield Hallam University combines academic legal education with extensive practical engagement, including a foundation year and a sandwich placement year, so you graduate with both sound legal knowledge and demonstrable professional experience. You will cover the core areas of English law, building a systematic understanding of contract, tort, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, land law, and equity and trusts. Beyond that foundation, the programme allows you to shape your studies around your own interests and career aspirations, whether that points towards commercial practice, criminal justice, human rights, or international law. Practical experience runs throughout the course: you will have the opportunity to work with the Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice, with on-campus legal service providers, and with external organisations, gaining exposure to law in action as well as in the lecture hall. A typical entry tariff of 104 points reflects an accessible but academically serious admissions standard. Graduates who intend to practise as solicitors or barristers will go on to complete the relevant professional qualifications, but a law degree from Sheffield Hallam also prepares you for a wide range of careers beyond the profession itself, including roles in business, public administration, policy, compliance, journalism, and the charitable sector. Many graduates pursue postgraduate study in law or a cognate field.
