LLB Law with Business
About this course
Law and business are deeply intertwined in practice, and studying them together gives you a perspective that neither discipline provides alone. Legal knowledge without business awareness can miss the commercial realities that shape how law is applied; business understanding without legal grounding can leave you ill-equipped for the regulatory and contractual frameworks within which every organisation operates. Law with Business equips you to navigate both dimensions, making you valuable in contexts where commercial judgment and legal understanding need to work in concert. At the University of Portsmouth, this three-year full-time degree covers the foundational areas of English law, including contract, tort, criminal law, public law, and equity and trusts, alongside modules in business strategy, management, finance, and marketing. You will study how law governs commercial transactions, how businesses operate within legal constraints, and how legal disputes arise and are resolved in commercial contexts. A placement or work experience year is built into the degree, and a year abroad is also available, broadening your perspective and adding professional and international dimensions to your studies. You will develop skills in legal research, analysis, and argumentation alongside the commercial awareness and broader business literacy that employers in law and business alike look for. The capacity to read and interpret complex documents, to understand risk, and to communicate clearly under pressure are capacities that run through both disciplines. Graduates are well placed for a range of careers. Many pursue legal qualification as solicitors or barristers, with the business element giving them particular relevance for commercial law practice. Others move into roles in compliance, contract management, human resources, finance, and general management, where a legal grounding is a significant asset. The degree also provides a strong foundation for postgraduate study in law, business, or management.
