About this course
Law with international relations brings together two disciplines whose concerns are deeply intertwined. International law, human rights law, trade law, and the conventions governing armed conflict all require an understanding of the political context in which law operates. International relations, meanwhile, depends on understanding the legal frameworks through which states manage their relationships, settle disputes, and cooperate on shared problems. Studying the two together gives you a much richer understanding of either alone. At Swansea the LLB Law with International Relations gives you a qualifying law degree alongside substantive knowledge of international politics, diplomacy, and global governance. Legal study covers the foundations of contract, tort, criminal, constitutional, and public law, developing the analytical rigour and professional awareness that the qualifying law degree demands. International relations content introduces you to theories of world politics, comparative political systems, international organisations, conflict and peace, and the political economy of globalisation. The combination is particularly relevant in an era when international trade disputes, refugee law, climate agreements, and human rights enforcement all require professionals who can navigate both the legal and the political dimensions of global affairs. The three-year full-time programme gives you depth in both disciplines. Graduates are well placed for careers in international law, diplomacy, the civil service, international organisations, NGOs, journalism, global business, and public affairs. The qualifying law degree opens the route to legal practice through the standard professional training routes, while the international relations dimension adds a breadth that is particularly valuable in careers concerned with global issues. Many students continue to postgraduate study in international law, international relations, or human rights.
