LLB Law With Politics
About this course
Law and politics have always shaped each other. Legal systems are created and sustained by political processes, and political life is structured and constrained by legal frameworks. Understanding how they interact gives you a perspective on public life that neither discipline alone can provide. A qualifying law degree with a substantial politics component prepares you both for the legal profession and for roles where an understanding of political systems, power, and governance is essential. At Edge Hill University, the LLB (Hons) Law with Politics programme gives you a solid grounding in the foundations of English and Welsh law, covering the core areas that a qualifying law degree requires, while also developing your understanding of political concepts, systems, and communication. You will study constitutional and administrative law, which sits at the heart of the relationship between the two disciplines, as well as criminal law, contract, and other core legal subjects, alongside modules that explore political theory, comparative government, and the political dimensions of law-making and legal change. A sandwich year with a work placement is available, as is a year abroad, offering opportunities to broaden your experience before graduation and to see how law and politics operate in other settings. Graduates have a wide range of options available to them. Those who wish to pursue a career in law can proceed to the next stage of professional qualification, whether as a solicitor or barrister. Others go into careers in politics, the civil service, local government, policy research, journalism, and the charity sector, where the combination of legal knowledge and political understanding is a genuine asset. Postgraduate study in law, politics, public policy, or human rights is another route, and many graduates find that the analytical and communication skills the degree develops open doors across a broad range of professional fields.
