BA Luxury Brand Management
About this course
Luxury brand management is the study of how the world's most prestigious brands are built, maintained and developed in an industry where perception, heritage, craftsmanship and exclusivity drive commercial success. Luxury is a distinctive sector of the global economy, operating by different rules from mass-market consumer goods: the premium is on desirability, authenticity and the careful management of scarcity rather than volume. Understanding how luxury brands create and sustain that desirability, across fashion, beauty, hospitality, property, watches, automobiles and lifestyle, is what this discipline addresses. At the University of Southampton, this three-year full-time programme combines theoretical and practical perspectives on the global luxury industry. You will study brand strategy, consumer behaviour and the psychology of luxury purchasing, digital marketing and social media in luxury contexts, retail experience and visual communication, and the global dimensions of the luxury market, including its expansion in Asia and the Middle East. The programme also addresses how the luxury industry is evolving in response to sustainability pressures, changing consumer expectations and the growth of digital channels. You will develop your understanding of how luxury brands build identity and loyalty, how they communicate exclusivity while reaching new audiences, and how they manage the tension between accessibility and desirability. Marketing analytics, brand storytelling and the management of consumer experience are developed alongside strategic thinking. Graduates go on to careers in luxury brand management, luxury retail and client relations, marketing and communications, digital strategy, event management and hospitality within luxury organisations across fashion, beauty, hotels, fine dining, premium automotive and lifestyle brands. Some go on to postgraduate study in luxury management, marketing or brand communications, building on the specialised foundation the degree provides.
