BSc Management with Human Resource Management
About this course
Management with human resource management is a degree that combines the broad strategic and operational study of how organisations function with a focused understanding of the most important resource any organisation possesses: its people. Human resource management is concerned with how organisations attract, develop, retain and motivate their workforce, and with the legal, ethical and cultural frameworks within which employment relationships operate. As globalisation and digital transformation change the nature of work, the ability to manage people effectively and fairly has become more important than ever. At Bangor University this three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, a sandwich year and a year abroad, together with embedded work placement experience. The foundation year builds the academic and conceptual foundations you need before entering the main degree, while the sandwich year provides an extended professional placement that could be in human resources, management consultancy, a large organisation's people team or a smaller business. The year abroad extends your understanding of how employment relationships and people management practices differ across national contexts, which is increasingly important in globally connected organisations. You will study organisational behaviour, employment law, recruitment and talent management, reward and performance management, leadership and the strategic context in which HR decisions are made. Graduates of management with HRM programmes move into human resources roles across virtually every sector of the economy, including generalist HR positions, specialist roles in talent acquisition, learning and development, reward management and employee relations. Many pursue the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development qualification alongside or after their degree. Others move into general management, consultancy, operations and project management roles. Postgraduate study in human resource management, organisational behaviour or business administration is a natural continuation, and the combination of management breadth and HR depth makes graduates attractive to employers who need people who understand both the business and the people dimensions of organisational life.
