BEng Manufacturing Engineering
About this course
Manufacturing engineering is the discipline that turns designs into products, developing the processes, systems and technologies through which objects are made efficiently, reliably and sustainably at scale. As global supply chains become more complex and the expectations around sustainability, quality and speed intensify, manufacturing engineers are at the centre of efforts to redesign how things are made, from applying robotics and automation to rethinking materials and reducing waste. The field combines mechanical, materials, industrial and systems engineering in a practical discipline oriented towards the realities of production. At Coventry, this three-year full-time programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, giving you a combination of international academic experience and direct professional engagement with the manufacturing sector. You will gain hands-on experience in robotics, automation and sustainable design, developing the technical, business and leadership skills that modern manufacturing demands. The programme teaches you how to design, optimise and deliver products using contemporary manufacturing technologies, engaging with the digital manufacturing tools, data-driven process improvement and lean production methods that characterise the field today. You will graduate with both a technical foundation in manufacturing engineering and a practical understanding of how manufacturing businesses operate, drawn from the professional experience accumulated during your sandwich year and work placement. This combination is precisely what employers in the sector value. Graduates work in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, medical devices, electronics, consumer goods and the supply chain and logistics sectors. Roles in process engineering, production management, quality engineering, lean manufacturing and technical project management are all common destinations. Many graduates pursue professional accreditation with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers or the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and postgraduate study is an option for those wishing to specialise.
