BEng Manufacturing Engineering with Management
About this course
Manufacturing engineering with management is a programme that addresses one of the most fundamental activities in economic life: how things are made, and how that process is organised, led and improved. Manufacturing engineers design and optimise production systems, develop new processes and materials, integrate automation and digital technologies and solve the engineering problems that arise when design meets the constraints of real manufacturing. Adding management gives you the organisational, strategic and human dimensions needed to lead production operations effectively. At the University of Strathclyde, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, reflecting the global nature of modern manufacturing. Everything we consume is created through production systems, and manufacturing engineers and managers are the people who design, run and improve those systems, ensuring that products and services are delivered when and where customers need them. Strathclyde has a long history of engineering education with strong links to Scottish and international industry. You will study materials, manufacturing processes, machine design, quality engineering, automation, lean and sustainable production, supply chain management, project management and the leadership and organisational behaviour skills needed to manage engineering teams. Digital manufacturing technologies, including computer-aided manufacture and Industry 4.0 concepts, are integrated throughout. Graduates go on to careers in manufacturing management, production engineering, process engineering, supply chain management, quality assurance, operations management and technology leadership across aerospace, automotive, electronics, pharmaceuticals, food production and many other industries. The combination of engineering depth and management capability makes graduates versatile and competitive for leadership roles in manufacturing organisations. Professional qualification and postgraduate study in manufacturing or engineering management are common routes for further development.
