BA Marketing with Foundation Year
About this course
Marketing is the discipline that connects organisations with the people they serve, drawing on psychology, economics, data science, and creative communication to understand what audiences want and how to reach them effectively. It encompasses brand strategy, market research, digital marketing, consumer behaviour, pricing, communications, and the ethics of persuasion in an increasingly data-rich environment. Contemporary marketing professionals need to be as comfortable with analytics dashboards as they are with creative briefs. At the University of Portsmouth, this four-year, full-time programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, making it one of the more experientially rich marketing degrees available. The sandwich year and placement allow you to work in a marketing environment before your final year, applying what you have studied and returning with professional experience and a clearer perspective on where your interests lie. The year abroad adds an international dimension, deepening your understanding of how marketing strategies adapt across cultures and markets. The programme also includes a built-in route from a lower tariff entry point, with the degree designed so that students who need additional preparation can build their academic foundations before progressing to the main content. A typical entry tariff of 120 UCAS points applies. Across the degree you will study consumer behaviour, digital and social media marketing, market research methods, brand management, marketing strategy, and the increasingly important intersection of data and marketing. The degree develops both creative and analytical capacities, and the professional experience embedded in the structure means you graduate with a CV that already shows employers you can perform in a real marketing context. Graduates enter careers in digital marketing, brand management, market research, public relations, content strategy, product management, advertising, and consultancy. Many also pursue postgraduate qualifications in marketing or business administration.
