BSc Mathematics / Business and Management
About this course
Mathematics and business management is a combination that equips you to apply rigorous quantitative thinking to the practical challenges of running and analysing organisations. Business decisions increasingly depend on mathematical and statistical reasoning: forecasting demand, optimising operations, modelling financial risk, and analysing market data all require the kind of analytical precision that a solid mathematical training provides. At the same time, understanding the organisational and strategic context within which quantitative techniques are applied is essential for using them well. At Aberystwyth this three-year full-time programme allows you to explore mathematics, statistics, economics, and psychology within a management context. You will develop mathematical and statistical skills progressively across the degree, learning how quantitative techniques can be applied to improve business objectives and understanding the synergies between mathematical modelling and management decision-making. The business and management strand covers the organisational, strategic, and behavioural dimensions of running enterprises, giving you the contextual knowledge to situate your mathematical skills within real commercial and organisational challenges. The combination is directly relevant to a wide range of business and analytical roles, and graduates who can work fluently across both quantitative and managerial dimensions are consistently sought after. Graduates move into careers in business analysis, data science, finance, operations research, management consultancy, actuarial work, supply chain management, and marketing analytics. The mathematical training also opens doors in financial technology and quantitative research. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in mathematics, business, or statistics, or go on to professional qualifications in finance or management.
