Mathematics is the language through which the natural sciences, engineering, finance and data science express their most fundamental insights. At the University of Salford, this three-year full-time degree builds your mathematical fluency from the foundations through to advanced topics, covering analysis, algebra, calculus, probability, statistics, numerical methods and differential equations. You will engage with both pure and applied mathematics, developing the ability to reason abstractly and to apply mathematical methods to problems drawn from science, engineering, finance and computing. The programme includes a sandwich year with work placement opportunities, giving you extended professional experience in a mathematical, analytical or technical environment before you complete your degree. This direct experience of applying mathematics in a real-world setting strengthens both your employability and your understanding of why the subject matters outside the classroom. Typical entry is around 120 UCAS tariff points. Mathematics graduates are consistently in demand across a wide range of industries. Data science, finance, actuarial work, operational research, software engineering, teaching, government statistical services and academic research are all common destinations.
