Philosophy asks the deepest questions about the nature of that knowledge itself: what is a number, what does it mean for a mathematical statement to be true, and is mathematics discovered in the world or invented by the human mind? At Royal Holloway, this three-year full-time programme combines both disciplines, and the combination develops two complementary intellectual capacities. Mathematics builds your skill in handling complex data, finding elegant solutions to precise problems and reasoning rigorously within formal systems. Philosophy develops your ability to analyse ideas, question assumptions, evaluate arguments and communicate challenging thoughts with clarity and care.
