BSc Mathematics (with Statistics)
About this course
Mathematics with Statistics gives you a grounding in two disciplines that are deeply connected but distinct in emphasis. Mathematics develops your capacity for abstract reasoning, proof and modelling, building the logical foundations that underlie science, engineering, computing and economics. Statistics develops your ability to collect, analyse and interpret data in the presence of uncertainty, providing the tools needed to draw reliable conclusions from evidence and to communicate findings in ways that can guide decisions. Together, they create a degree with exceptional breadth of application. At Keele University this three-year full-time programme provides a solid foundation in both subjects, combining core work in mathematics and statistics with training in statistical software and the opportunity to explore advanced applications in areas such as medical statistics and financial mathematics. The degree is shaped by a concern for employability as well as academic excellence, incorporating practical problem-solving and analytical modules alongside the theoretical content. The programme includes a sandwich year, giving you the opportunity to spend time in an industry placement before your final year, as well as a year abroad option and work placement opportunities embedded in the curriculum. Graduates from Mathematics with Statistics degrees are in strong demand across a wide range of sectors. Many go on to careers in data analysis, actuarial science, financial modelling, operational research, insurance, government statistical services and health analytics. Others find roles in education, environmental science, sports analytics, risk management and market research. The combination of mathematical precision and statistical insight the degree develops makes graduates highly adaptable across both quantitative and analytical roles. For those wishing to continue their studies, the degree provides an excellent foundation for postgraduate work in mathematics, statistics, data science, financial mathematics or related quantitative fields.
