Mechanical engineering is the discipline concerned with the design, analysis, manufacture, and maintenance of machines and mechanical systems. It is one of the broadest and most fundamental branches of engineering, underpinning industries as diverse as aerospace, automotive, energy, manufacturing, biomedical devices, and consumer products. Mechanical engineers apply principles of physics, materials science, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and structural analysis to create systems that are both functional and efficient, and they are essential to virtually every sector of the modern economy. At UWE Bristol, this part-time programme is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and designed for people who are working in industry and want to develop their professional engineering knowledge alongside their careers. The day-release study mode allows you to remain in employment while building the academic foundations for professional engineering qualification. A sandwich year and a work placement are built in, reinforcing the connection between study and practice. The IMechE accreditation is a significant signal of programme quality and is directly relevant to those pursuing routes to Chartered Engineer status, which is the recognised mark of professional engineering competence in the UK.
