BA Media Production
About this course
Media production is a practical discipline concerned with the craft of making content for film, television, radio, online platforms, and other forms of media. It encompasses the technical skills of production, from camera operation, lighting, and sound recording to editing and post-production, alongside the creative and collaborative skills needed to turn an idea into a finished piece that communicates with an audience. In an era when media consumption is more diverse and distributed than ever before, skilled media practitioners are in demand across a wide range of contexts. At the University of Hull, this three-year full-time programme is built around hands-on learning. You will gain the creative, technical, and collaborative skills needed to break into the media industries through actual production work rather than purely theoretical study. You will work across a range of formats and contexts, developing your technical proficiency with cameras, audio equipment, editing software, and production workflows while also engaging with the storytelling and communication principles that make media content effective. Collaboration is central to the programme, reflecting the reality that professional media production is almost always a team effort, and you will develop the ability to work with others across different creative roles. The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points, and the degree is studied full time. Graduates from media production programmes go on to careers in television production, film, radio, podcast production, online content creation, corporate media, journalism, public relations, and the creative industries more broadly. Many also move into technical roles in broadcast engineering, post-production, and live events. Further study options include postgraduate programmes in film, media production, broadcasting, and digital media.
