BA Media Production
About this course
Media production is a practical discipline concerned with the creation and distribution of content across television, radio, film, online platforms, and other media channels. It encompasses the full production process, from development and pre-production through principal photography or recording to post-production and delivery, and it asks students to develop both the creative skills and the technical competencies needed to work effectively in real production environments. As the media landscape has expanded and fragmented, the demand for skilled producers who can work across formats and platforms has grown significantly. At the University of Bedfordshire this three-year full-time programme gives you access to strong industry links, including with Luton Town FC, Bedford Blues RFC, media and communications agencies, and other partners who provide live project opportunities and placement experience. You will develop skills in video production, audio production, editing, content creation, and media management, working on real briefs alongside your academic studies. The combination of practical learning and industry engagement ensures that you graduate with a portfolio and professional experience that reflects how media production actually works in practice. Graduates from media production programmes go on to careers across the broadcast, digital media, and content industries. Roles as producer, director, video editor, content creator, production coordinator, and broadcast journalist are all common paths, and many graduates build freelance or portfolio careers that span multiple platforms and clients. The production skills developed through the degree are also valuable in corporate communications, marketing, live events, and the growing demand for professional-quality video and audio content in non-media organisations. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study or specialist professional training to deepen their expertise in a particular area of production.
