BA Media Production with Integrated Foundation Year
About this course
Media Production is the practical discipline of creating content for film, television, radio, online platforms, and digital media, encompassing the full range of skills involved in bringing media projects to life: research, development, writing, directing, camera operation, sound recording, editing, and post-production. As the media landscape has multiplied and diversified, the ability to produce high-quality content across multiple formats and platforms has become an increasingly essential skill, and media production graduates are found across the creative industries in a wide range of roles. At the University of Sunderland, this four-year full-time programme includes an Integrated Foundation Year, providing a structured and supportive introduction to degree-level study for students who are returning to education, who didn't quite meet the standard entry requirements, or who want to build their confidence and skills before engaging with the main curriculum. The foundation year develops the academic and creative foundations needed for the programme, and the main degree then develops your practical production skills across film and television production, documentary, journalism, digital content, and broadcast media. A year abroad is available, giving you the opportunity to study media production in an international context and to engage with different production cultures. Sunderland's strong links to the creative industries of the North East provide relevant professional connections, and the programme's practical orientation means you graduate with a portfolio that demonstrates your skills to employers. Graduates work as producers, directors, editors, camera operators, content creators, journalists, and in production management roles across film, television, radio, online platforms, and the marketing and communications sector. Many also pursue postgraduate study in film, television, journalism, or media production, deepening their specialism or moving into research and academic careers.
