MBBS Medicine
About this course
Medicine is one of the most demanding and most rewarding degrees available, combining scientific rigour with clinical skill and the ongoing challenge of working with people at some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. It requires an understanding of the human body in health and disease, the diagnostic and therapeutic knowledge to intervene effectively, and the professional and ethical grounding to do so responsibly and compassionately. A medical degree is not just a qualification: it is the beginning of a lifelong learning journey at the heart of one of society's most important institutions. Hull York Medical School, a partnership between the Universities of Hull and York, offers a distinctive five-year undergraduate medicine programme designed to develop the doctors of the future. You will engage with scientific foundations in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and pathology alongside clinical skills training and early patient contact. The programme is shaped by a commitment to preparing graduates who can deliver exceptional healthcare, and it situates clinical learning within real communities and healthcare environments across the Hull and York region. The integrated curriculum links biomedical science with clinical practice throughout, so you develop clinical reasoning from the very beginning of your training. Medical graduates enter the Foundation Programme, the two-year postgraduate training that all new doctors in the UK undertake before choosing a specialty. From there, paths lead into general practice, hospital medicine across a broad range of specialties, academic medicine and research, public health, and global health. Medicine is also a foundation for careers in medical education, health policy, and clinical leadership. The degree represents a long-term commitment, but one that leads to a profession consistently in demand and offering the opportunity to make a genuine and lasting difference to the people you care for.
