BSc Neuroscience with Artificial Intelligence with Foundation Year
About this course
Neuroscience with artificial intelligence sits at one of the most exciting frontiers in science, where understanding how the brain works and developing the computational tools that mimic or exceed aspects of that function converge. Neuroscience examines the biological basis of perception, thought, emotion, memory, and behaviour, working at scales from molecular signalling within individual neurons to the large-scale network dynamics that give rise to consciousness and cognition. Artificial intelligence, particularly machine learning and deep learning, draws inspiration from neural computation while also providing tools that allow neuroscientists to analyse the vast datasets that modern brain science generates. At Keele this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, giving you a preparatory stage to build the biological and quantitative foundations you need before entering the main degree. Across the programme you will explore how the brain works at multiple levels, from cellular neuroscience and neurochemistry through to systems neuroscience and the neural bases of complex behaviour. The AI strand develops your programming skills, data analysis capabilities, and understanding of machine learning, equipping you to work with the computational tools that are increasingly central to neuroscience research and to the growing applications of AI in healthcare, diagnostics, and brain-computer interfaces. Graduates move into careers in biotech and pharmaceutical research, healthcare data science, neuroscience research, clinical technology, AI development, and innovation roles in health and technology companies. The degree is also an excellent foundation for postgraduate study in neuroscience, computational biology, or data science, and for doctoral research at the interface of brain science and AI.
