BA Philosophy, Politics and Economics
About this course
Philosophy, politics, and economics, commonly known as PPE, is one of the most intellectually ambitious combinations available at undergraduate level, bringing together the systematic analysis of values and arguments from philosophy, the empirical and theoretical study of political systems and power from politics, and the quantitative and conceptual tools for understanding how markets, incentives, and economic systems work from economics. The three disciplines are deeply interconnected: economic policy depends on political decisions shaped by philosophical values; political institutions are embedded in economic structures; and economic theory raises philosophical questions about rationality, justice, and welfare. This three-year full-time degree at the University of Leeds includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and embedded work placement experience. You will develop skills in critical reasoning and formal argument alongside core insights from all three disciplines, learning to analyse complex problems from multiple perspectives and to communicate your thinking clearly and precisely. The programme equips you with the knowledge and analytical tools to understand how human societies function and what changes might make them work better. The sandwich year, year abroad, and work placement experience give you substantial opportunities to apply your learning in professional and international settings, developing practical skills and contextual knowledge alongside your academic formation. A typical entry tariff of 168 UCAS points reflects a selective admissions process for a demanding and prestigious programme. PPE graduates are among the most sought-after in the country, consistently entering careers in government, finance, management consulting, law, journalism, think tanks, international organisations, and the civil service. Many continue to postgraduate study in economics, politics, philosophy, public policy, or law.
