BSc Physiotherapy
About this course
Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession devoted to restoring, maintaining, and maximising movement and function in people whose capacity to move has been affected by injury, illness, or disability. Physiotherapists work alongside doctors, nurses, and other health professionals to assess the physical causes of reduced mobility and to design and deliver treatment programmes that help people recover, manage long-term conditions, and live as actively as possible. The profession combines scientific knowledge of the musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiorespiratory systems with clinical skill and the interpersonal ability to work effectively with people facing challenging circumstances. At Coventry, this three-year full-time programme prepares you for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a physiotherapist. You will develop a thorough grounding in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and the evidence base for physiotherapy practice, alongside clinical assessment, treatment planning, and the delivery of interventions that include exercise, manual therapy, and patient education. Supervised clinical placements form a central part of the programme, giving you hands-on experience across a range of healthcare settings where you will work with real patients under qualified supervision. Coventry's well-equipped facilities support practical learning throughout your studies. Qualified physiotherapists work in the NHS across a range of settings and specialisms, including musculoskeletal, neurological, respiratory, paediatric, and mental health physiotherapy, as well as in private practice, sport, occupational health, and research. The profession provides a clear pathway of career progression through specialisation, advanced clinical practice, and leadership. Many graduates pursue postgraduate study in specialist areas of physiotherapy or clinical research, and some move into academic roles in physiotherapy education.
