BSc Physiotherapy
About this course
Physiotherapy is the healthcare profession concerned with the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of movement and function problems resulting from injury, illness, disability, or the effects of ageing. Physiotherapists work with people across the lifespan, from neonates to older adults, in settings ranging from acute hospitals and community clinics to sports teams and rehabilitation centres. The profession requires both a rigorous scientific grounding in anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics and a sophisticated capacity for clinical reasoning and patient communication. At the University of Liverpool, this three-year full-time programme is a demanding and evidence-based course that teaches you to diagnose and holistically treat a wide variety of clinical problems. The curriculum is designed to reflect current practice, with research underpinning all aspects of teaching. Liverpool's approach to practice placement is described as unique, providing a broad range of placement opportunities that reflect the diversity of settings in which physiotherapists work. The programme includes a year abroad component, adding an international dimension to your education. You will develop as an independent, resourceful practitioner capable of meeting the challenges of contemporary healthcare. Completing this degree and gaining Health and Care Professions Council registration qualifies you to practise as a physiotherapist in the UK. Physiotherapists work in the NHS across a wide range of specialties, including musculoskeletal physiotherapy, neurological rehabilitation, respiratory care, women's health, and paediatrics. Many also work in private practice, sports medicine, occupational health, and research. The profession offers strong employment prospects and opportunities to develop specialisms or move into management, education, and research over the course of a career. Postgraduate study in advanced clinical practice or a specialist area of physiotherapy is a well-supported route for those who wish to extend their expertise.
