BEd Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
About this course
Primary education is among the most consequential of the helping professions, because the quality of a child's experience in their early years of school shapes the foundations of their learning, confidence and relationship with knowledge for life. Teaching in primary schools requires a rare combination of subject knowledge across the breadth of the curriculum, deep understanding of child development, and the practical classroom skill to engage, challenge and support children with very different needs and starting points. This three-year full-time programme at Anglia Ruskin University leads directly to Qualified Teacher Status, preparing you to teach in primary schools in England and Wales from the moment you graduate. You will combine academic study of education theory, child psychology, curriculum design and pedagogy with three high-quality assessed placements in primary schools. The placements are central to the programme, giving you sustained, supervised experience in real classrooms where you will develop and demonstrate the practical competence that QTS demands. You will learn to plan and deliver lessons, to assess children's learning, to manage classroom behaviour constructively and to work as part of a school community. The academic component deepens your understanding of the principles underlying effective teaching and equips you to continue developing professionally throughout your career. A typical entry tariff of 104 points reflects the programme's accessibility to students from a range of backgrounds, and the direct route to QTS means you can enter the profession as a qualified teacher without any additional training after graduation. Graduates enter the teaching profession as primary school teachers, working across the foundation stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 with children from ages 4 to 11. The qualification provides the basis for a career with considerable variety and progression, from classroom teaching and subject leadership through to special educational needs coordination, senior leadership and headship. Primary teaching is a profession in strong and sustained demand across the maintained sector, independent schools and internationally.
