BSc Project Management
About this course
Project management has become one of the most widely valued professional disciplines across every sector of the economy. Whether an organisation is developing new technology, delivering a construction project, running a marketing campaign or introducing a change programme, the ability to plan, coordinate and deliver that work to time, budget and quality requires specific skills and methods. This three-year full-time degree at Leeds Beckett University, accredited by the Association for Project Management, gives you a rigorous foundation in those skills alongside the broader business knowledge that effective project managers need. You will study the core frameworks and techniques of project management, from planning and risk assessment to stakeholder engagement, team leadership and financial control, and you will apply them to realistic scenarios across a range of organisational contexts. The programme also develops your ability to work effectively with others, a dimension of project management that is just as important as technical competence. A placement year gives you direct professional experience, allowing you to practise what you have learned in a real workplace and to build the professional relationships that often lead to graduate employment. A year abroad is built into the programme, and work placement opportunities are included throughout, so that by graduation you have both professional credibility and an international perspective. Project management skills are in demand across virtually every sector. Construction, engineering, IT, healthcare, financial services, events, charities and the public sector all employ project managers, and the formal accreditation provided by APM recognition is recognised by employers across these fields. Graduates move into roles such as project coordinator, project manager and programme manager, and many build careers as consultants advising organisations on how to improve their project delivery. Postgraduate study in project management, operations management or business administration is a natural progression for those who want to develop specialist expertise or move into more senior leadership roles.
