About this course

Psychology and marketing is a combination that reflects a deep truth about commercial life: the most effective marketing is grounded in a genuine understanding of how people think, decide and behave. Psychology contributes the scientific study of perception, memory, motivation, emotion, social influence and decision-making, while marketing brings the strategic and creative frameworks through which brands communicate and persuade. Together they create a degree that is both analytically rigorous and practically oriented toward one of the most competitive and dynamic professional fields. At Aston, which has a strong tradition of professionally engaged business and social science education, this four-year programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study in another country and develop an international perspective on both consumer behaviour and marketing practice. You will study the core areas of psychology, including cognitive, social and developmental psychology and research methods, alongside marketing theory, brand management, digital marketing, consumer behaviour, strategic communications and market research. The combination allows you to understand not just what marketing strategies look like but why they work, grounded in evidence about human psychology. The typical entry tariff is 136 UCAS points. Graduates move into careers in marketing, advertising, market research, brand management, digital strategy, consumer insight, public relations, user experience design, product management and consultancy. The psychological grounding is particularly valued in roles that require genuine understanding of customer behaviour, such as consumer research, UX and behavioural insight. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in marketing, consumer psychology, business administration or applied psychology. The combination of scientific rigour and commercial awareness that this programme develops is highly regarded by employers in a wide range of organisations.
