BSc Psychology with foundation year
About this course
Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour, investigating how people think, feel, perceive, and interact, and why they differ so widely in these respects. It draws on biology, neuroscience, social science, and statistics to build evidence-based accounts of human experience, and it generates knowledge that is relevant to health, education, organisations, and almost every other domain of human life. At Coventry University, this four-year, full-time programme includes a foundation year, providing a structured and accessible entry into the degree for students who benefit from additional academic preparation before entering the main programme. Once in the core degree, you will explore contemporary psychology in depth, developing your understanding of the cognitive, biological, developmental, social, and clinical dimensions of human behaviour. You will learn to evaluate psychological research critically, design and conduct studies, interpret data, and apply psychological knowledge to practical questions. A sandwich placement year, year abroad option, and work placement opportunities are all available, giving you substantial professional experience and international exposure during your studies. Graduates go on to a wide range of careers. Those who wish to practice professionally as psychologists typically continue to postgraduate training in clinical, educational, occupational, forensic, or health psychology, working towards chartership with the British Psychological Society. Others apply their understanding of human behaviour in roles in HR, mental health support, social care, education, market research, user experience, health promotion, and management. The research skills and analytical thinking the degree develops are genuinely valued across many professional fields beyond psychology itself.
