About this course

Quantity surveying is the financial and contractual management of construction projects, from initial cost planning and procurement through to final account settlement. It is the discipline that ensures buildings and infrastructure are designed, tendered, and built within agreed budgets, and that all parties to a construction contract are dealt with fairly. Quantity surveyors work across the full life cycle of a project, advising clients on cost, value, and risk, managing procurement, and resolving the disputes that inevitably arise in a complex, multi-party industry. At Anglia Ruskin University, this three-year full-time programme gives you a thorough grounding in the principles and practice of quantity surveying. You will study construction technology, building economics, contract law, procurement, cost planning, tendering, and the management of construction projects from feasibility through to completion. The programme integrates professional practice with academic study, preparing you for the demands of the built environment sector and for the pathway to Chartered Quantity Surveyor status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. A typical entry tariff of 104 points applies, and part-time study over five years is also available for those who need greater flexibility. You will develop both technical skills, including measurement, cost modelling, and the use of industry software, and the commercial and interpersonal skills needed to operate effectively in a sector characterised by tight margins, complex contracts, and the need to manage relationships between clients, contractors, and subcontractors. Graduates go on to work in private quantity surveying consultancies, main contractors, specialist subcontractors, client organisations, and the public sector. Many pursue professional chartership with the RICS, which is the standard qualification in the field. Postgraduate study in quantity surveying, project management, or construction law is another option for those wishing to specialise or move into senior roles.
