BSc Real Estate
About this course
Real estate is the study and professional practice of understanding, valuing, managing, and transacting the built environment. It encompasses residential and commercial property, land, development, investment, and the legal and financial frameworks within which real estate markets operate. Property is one of the world's largest asset classes, and the people who advise on it, manage it, and invest in it need a combination of economic, financial, legal, and analytical knowledge that makes real estate one of the most interdisciplinary of the professional degree subjects. At the University of Reading, this three-year full-time BSc includes a foundation year for students who need to build their academic foundations before entering the core degree programme. Reading is one of the UK's most respected institutions for real estate education, with a strong reputation in the property professions and close connections to the industry. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of the property sector, integrating core disciplines including economics, finance, and law, alongside practical learning through case studies, site visits, and industry presentations. The programme places a strong emphasis on sustainability and ethical practices, reflecting the growing importance of environmental, social, and governance considerations in real estate decision-making. A year abroad gives you an international perspective on real estate markets and practice. The degree is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, which is the recognised professional body for real estate and surveying professionals in the UK and internationally. Graduates go on to careers as chartered surveyors, property managers, real estate investment analysts, development managers, planning consultants, and asset managers across the residential, commercial, and public sectors. Many pursue RICS membership, and some continue to postgraduate study in real estate, urban planning, or sustainability. Reading's graduate outcomes in real estate are consistently strong, reflecting the programme's reputation in the profession.
