BA Spanish and Marketing
About this course
Spanish and marketing is a combination that acknowledges a commercial reality: Spanish is spoken natively by more than 500 million people, is the dominant language across most of Latin America and is the second most commonly spoken language in the world. The ability to operate professionally in Spanish, combined with a thorough understanding of how markets and consumer behaviour work, opens doors across a remarkable range of industries and geographies. At the University of Strathclyde, this four-year full-time degree builds both sets of skills in depth, developing your linguistic and cultural competence in Spanish alongside the marketing knowledge and analytical skills that contemporary commercial roles require. In the Spanish strand, you will develop your language skills to a high level of professional fluency, studying literature, culture, history and contemporary society in Spain and across the Spanish-speaking world. The marketing component covers consumer psychology, market research, brand management, digital marketing, advertising strategy and the quantitative tools used to evaluate marketing effectiveness. Strathclyde's business school has a strong track record in developing commercially minded graduates, and the degree is built around practical application as well as conceptual understanding. A typical entry tariff of around 216 points is expected for this programme. Graduates pursue careers in international marketing, brand management, advertising, public relations, digital marketing, market research and commercial management in organisations with Spanish-speaking markets. The combination is particularly valuable in sectors with significant Latin American or Iberian presence, including natural resources, financial services, consumer goods and tourism. Many graduates also go on to professional qualifications in marketing or postgraduate study in international business or Hispanic studies, and the linguistic competence the degree develops opens doors across virtually any industry with international operations.
