BSc Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences (Dual Degree)
About this course
Sport, health and exercise sciences examines the scientific principles underlying physical performance, the promotion of health through physical activity, and the exercise and conditioning interventions that support both athletic performance and general wellbeing. Drawing on physiology, biomechanics, psychology, nutrition and public health, it is an applied discipline with direct relevance to how sport is coached, how health promotion is delivered, how exercise medicine is practised and how elite performance is developed and sustained. The dual degree element adds an international dimension by giving you the opportunity to study at a partner institution abroad. At the University of Portsmouth you will study sport, health and exercise sciences over three years of full-time study, on a programme that includes a sandwich year and the opportunity for a year abroad, adding professional and international experience that is particularly relevant for students who see themselves pursuing a global career in sport or health. Work placement is integrated throughout the programme, giving you direct applied experience alongside your academic development. The dual degree element is designed to open international career pathways and to develop the intercultural competency that global sport and health organisations value. The typical tariff of 120 reflects a programme accessible to students with strong scientific and sporting backgrounds. Graduates work as sport scientists, strength and conditioning coaches, exercise physiologists, health and wellness coaches, sport development officers, physical activity coordinators, sports performance analysts and exercise rehabilitation specialists. Many go on to postgraduate study in sport and exercise science, strength and conditioning, sport psychology, physiotherapy or related health sciences. The dual degree element is particularly valuable for graduates seeking roles in international sport organisations, professional sport clubs with international operations, or global health promotion bodies. The breadth of the programme's scientific and applied dimensions prepares graduates for a range of careers at the intersection of sport, health and exercise.
