BA Sport Management
About this course
Sport management applies business and management thinking to the distinctive world of sport, one of the most commercially significant sectors in the global economy. It is a field concerned with how sporting organisations, events, leagues, and brands are planned, operated, and grown. From the governance of professional clubs and national governing bodies to the management of elite events, media rights, commercial sponsorship, and grassroots participation, sport management covers the full range of commercial and organisational activity through which modern sport functions. This three-year full-time programme at Liverpool Hope University takes you through the breadth of the global sports industry. You will explore sports properties including leagues, teams, and athletes, rights management covering media and marketing, mega-event planning and delivery, and content packaging through branding, sponsorship, and broadcasting. The programme combines theoretical knowledge in management, marketing, finance, and strategy with an applied understanding of how those ideas work in sport-specific contexts. A sandwich year in industry and a year abroad are built in alongside a work placement, giving you substantial professional experience in the sports sector and an international perspective on how the industry operates. With a typical entry tariff of 120 points, the programme is well suited to students who have both a genuine interest in sport and ambitions to work in its commercial and organisational dimensions. Sport management graduates are well placed for careers across the industry. Roles in club and organisation management, event management, sports marketing, commercial partnerships, media and broadcasting, and sports development are all accessible routes. National governing bodies, professional leagues, sports agencies, event companies, and commercial brands with sports sponsorship portfolios all employ sport management graduates. The international year and placement experience make graduates competitive in an industry where practical experience is highly valued. Many graduates also go on to postgraduate study in sport management, sports business, or MBA programmes with a sport focus, building towards leadership roles in the sector.
