BSc Sport Science, Coaching and Physical Education
About this course
Sport science, coaching, and physical education brings together three interconnected areas of knowledge that address how the human body performs, how performance can be developed through skilled coaching, and how physical education can be taught effectively in schools and community settings. Sport science applies the methods of physiology, biomechanics, psychology, and sociology to understand athletic performance and physical activity. Coaching translates that science into practice, developing the interpersonal and pedagogical skills needed to improve performance and support athletes. Physical education extends this into the educational context, preparing graduates to inspire children and young people to engage with physical activity throughout their lives. At Loughborough, consistently one of the UK's top universities for sport, this three-year full-time programme gives you access to outstanding facilities, research expertise, and a deeply sport-focused academic community. You will develop both theoretical and practical understanding across sport science, coaching, and physical education, covering physiology, biomechanics, skill acquisition, psychology, and the sociology of sport alongside applied coaching and teaching skills. The typical entry tariff is 152 UCAS points. Graduates from this programme pursue careers as PE teachers in secondary schools, typically after completing a postgraduate teaching qualification, as well as in performance coaching, sport development, strength and conditioning, community sport, and sport management. The range of the degree makes graduates versatile, with pathways into education, elite sport, public health, and the fitness industry. For those who wish to pursue research or specialise further, postgraduate study in sport science, coaching science, or physical education is a well-established route.
