BSc Strength, Conditioning and Rehabilitation with Foundation
About this course
Strength, Conditioning and Rehabilitation is a discipline that sits at the intersection of exercise science, sports medicine and performance coaching. It applies knowledge of physiology, biomechanics, motor learning and anatomy to the systematic development of physical qualities, including strength, power, speed, endurance and movement quality, as well as to the management and rehabilitation of injury. Practitioners in this field work with athletes and active populations at all levels, from grassroots community sport to elite performance, as well as with clinical populations recovering from injury or surgery. At the University of Gloucestershire this four-year full-time degree includes a foundation year, giving you time to develop the foundational scientific and practical knowledge you need before entering the specialist curriculum. The programme is strongly practice-oriented, developing your ability to assess, programme and coach in real-world settings. Placement partners span a wide range of environments, from elite sport to youth sport, giving you experience of working in diverse professional contexts. You will learn how to design and deliver strength and conditioning programmes, how to assess movement and physical capacity, and how to support athletes and clients through injury and recovery. Graduates from Strength, Conditioning and Rehabilitation degrees go on to careers as strength and conditioning coaches, sports rehabilitation therapists, performance analysts and personal trainers across elite, semi-professional and recreational sport. Others work in clinical rehabilitation environments, occupational health settings, armed forces fitness training and sports development. The combination of scientific knowledge and practical coaching skills the degree develops is valued across the sports and fitness industries. For those wishing to continue their studies, the degree provides a strong foundation for postgraduate work in strength and conditioning, sports science, physiotherapy or sports medicine.
