BSc Sustainable Business Management
About this course
Sustainable business management is a discipline that takes seriously the idea that how businesses operate has consequences beyond their balance sheets, and that the most pressing challenges of our time, from climate change and resource depletion to inequality and supply chain ethics, are also business challenges that require capable managers to address them. It combines the analytical and practical frameworks of business management with a rigorous engagement with sustainability, examining how organisations can pursue commercial success while reducing harm and contributing to social and environmental goals. At the University of Salford, this three-year full-time degree equips you with the knowledge of business functions including strategy, finance, marketing, operations and leadership, while integrating sustainability thinking throughout rather than treating it as a separate topic bolted on at the end. You will examine the business case for sustainable practice, the regulatory and reporting frameworks that are reshaping corporate behaviour, the challenge of supply chain transparency and the growing role of business in responding to the climate emergency. The programme prepares you to be a leader who understands that caring for people and the planet is not at odds with organisational effectiveness but increasingly essential to it. Typical entry is around 104 UCAS tariff points. Graduates from sustainable business management programmes are sought by organisations of all kinds, from large corporations developing ESG strategies to small social enterprises and charities where sustainability is central to the mission. Common career destinations include sustainability and corporate responsibility roles, operations and supply chain management, business consultancy, public sector management, green finance and impact investment, and entrepreneurship. The combination of business fluency and sustainability expertise is increasingly rare and increasingly valued across every sector. Further study options include specialist masters programmes in sustainable business, environmental management, social enterprise or corporate governance.
