Theoretical physics is the branch of physics concerned with the mathematical and conceptual foundations of how the universe works. Where experimental physics tests ideas against data, theoretical physics constructs the frameworks that make sense of the physical world at a fundamental level, from quantum mechanics and general relativity to statistical mechanics, particle physics, and cosmology.
