About this course

User experience and user interface design, commonly known as UX-UI design, is the discipline that shapes how people interact with digital products. UX design is concerned with the overall experience of using a product, asking whether it is intuitive, efficient, satisfying, and genuinely useful for the people who will use it. UI design focuses on the visual and interactive elements through which that experience is delivered, including layouts, typography, colour, interactive components, and the visual hierarchy that guides users through a product. Together, they address both the structure and the surface of digital experience. At the University of Cumbria, this full-time, three-year BA develops your creative and technical skills to design intuitive, engaging digital experiences that put users first. You will develop expertise in UX research, interaction design, visual design, usability testing, and prototyping, learning how to design and refine user-centred digital products across web, mobile, and emerging platforms. The programme combines creativity with critical thinking from concept through to delivery, using industry-standard tools and facilities. The practical, digitally focused approach ensures that your graduate portfolio reflects the kind of design thinking and technical proficiency that employers in the field require. The typical entry tariff is 88 UCAS points. UX-UI design graduates are sought across the full range of digital product companies, from technology start-ups to global platforms, as well as in agencies, in-house design teams in financial services, healthcare, retail, government, and media organisations. Roles include UX researcher, interaction designer, UI designer, product designer, and digital experience designer. The field is one of consistent and growing demand, driven by the expansion of digital products and services across every sector. Postgraduate study in interaction design, human-computer interaction, or digital product design is available for those who wish to go further.
