BSc Zoology
About this course
Zoology is the scientific study of animal life in all its extraordinary diversity, and it is a discipline that has never been more important. The accelerating loss of biodiversity, the fragmentation of habitats, and the complex interactions between human land use and wildlife populations make the understanding that zoologists bring genuinely urgent. At the same time, zoology remains one of the most intellectually satisfying of the life sciences, offering the pleasures of close observation, experimental investigation, and the development of ideas about how animals work and why they have evolved as they have. At Hartpury University, this three-year full-time programme is delivered by experienced animal scientists, conservationists, and industry practitioners who bring both academic expertise and real-world knowledge to the curriculum. You will develop field and laboratory skills that are in genuine demand by employers in conservation, animal management, and research, learning to design and carry out ecological surveys, identify species, work with captive and wild animals, and interpret and communicate scientific data. The programme includes a sandwich year and work placement, ensuring that you have professional experience in a zoological or conservation context before you graduate. Hartpury's campus and farm facilities provide a distinctive applied learning environment. The typical entry tariff is 104 UCAS points. Graduates go on to careers in conservation organisations, wildlife management, zoos and aquaria, environmental consultancy, nature reserve management, animal welfare, and scientific research. Many also progress to postgraduate study in ecology, conservation biology, or animal behaviour.
