BSc Zoology with Environmental Management
About this course
Zoology with environmental management combines the scientific study of animals with the applied understanding of how ecosystems are managed, conserved, and protected. Animals do not exist in isolation: their welfare, behaviour, and survival are intimately connected to the health of the environments they inhabit, and managing those environments effectively requires both ecological knowledge and practical management skills. At Harper Adams University, this four-year full-time programme allows you to study the structure, classification, behaviour, health, nutrition, and conservation of a wide range of animal species, alongside the management of the ecosystems with which those species are associated. Harper Adams has a distinctive focus on the land-based and rural sectors, which gives the programme a practical orientation grounded in real ecological and agricultural contexts. You will study vertebrate and invertebrate zoology, animal behaviour, ecology, genetics, and conservation biology, and you will develop fieldwork skills in species identification, population assessment, habitat survey, and data analysis. The environmental management strand introduces you to land management, nature conservation policy, ecological consultancy, and the regulatory and planning frameworks within which environmental management operates. The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points. Graduates from zoology with environmental management programmes go on to careers in conservation, wildlife management, ecological consultancy, environmental regulation, farm advisory services, land management, and nature reserve management. Many work for conservation organisations, government agencies, environmental consultancies, or land-owning estates. Further study options include postgraduate degrees in ecology, conservation, and environmental management.
