BSc Zoology
About this course
Zoology is the study of animal life in all its extraordinary diversity, from the simplest invertebrates to the most complex mammals, from the biochemical processes that sustain individual cells to the ecological dynamics of entire communities. It draws on anatomy, physiology, behaviour, evolutionary biology, ecology, and conservation science to build a comprehensive picture of how animals function, how they have evolved, and how they relate to the environments in which they live. At a time when biodiversity loss is one of the most pressing environmental challenges humanity faces, zoologists are increasingly central to conservation and ecological management efforts. At the University of Lincoln, this three-year full-time programme integrates the key disciplines of animal biology into a coherent curriculum that spans from molecular and cellular levels to whole ecosystems. A sandwich placement year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities are all built into the programme, giving you direct professional experience in zoological, conservation, or research settings alongside the international perspective that studying or working abroad provides. The typical entry tariff of 120 points reflects the accessible character of this programme at a university with a strong commitment to practical and applied learning. You will develop practical field and laboratory skills, the ability to design and conduct biological research, and the analytical capabilities needed to interpret complex ecological and evolutionary data. Understanding animal diversity, you will also come to understand the deep interconnectedness of life on Earth and the ways in which human activity is reshaping it. Graduates pursue careers in wildlife conservation, zoological parks and aquaria, environmental consultancy, ecology, animal behaviour research, veterinary support, science communication, and education. Many continue to postgraduate study in zoology, ecology, conservation biology, or related fields, which opens pathways into specialist research and professional wildlife management.
