BSc Zoology With Marine Zoology
About this course
Zoology with marine zoology focuses on the animal kingdom in all its diversity, with a specific extension into the marine environment that covers one of the richest and most scientifically important ecosystems on the planet. Zoology as a discipline examines the biology, behaviour, ecology and evolution of animals, developing a rigorous scientific understanding of how animal life operates from the cellular level through to population and ecosystem dynamics. The marine specialism adds depth in the biology of ocean organisms, marine food webs, aquatic ecology and the pressing environmental challenges facing marine systems globally. At Bangor University, this three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, making it one of the more experientially rich zoology programmes available. Bangor's location in North Wales, close to Snowdonia and the Menai Strait, gives students direct access to exceptional field sites for both terrestrial and marine biology. You will develop skills in fieldwork, laboratory science, data analysis and ecological assessment that prepare you for both academic research and professional roles in conservation and environmental management. The typical entry tariff is 120 UCAS points. Zoology graduates move into a wide range of careers. Conservation organisations, natural history institutions, environmental consultancies, government agencies such as Natural England and Natural Resources Wales, and international bodies working on wildlife and habitat protection all recruit zoology graduates. Marine zoology expertise specifically opens opportunities in fisheries management, marine conservation, oceanographic research and aquaculture. Many graduates go on to postgraduate study, with an MSc or PhD being the standard route into research and academic careers in zoology and marine biology. Science communication, wildlife filmmaking and environmental education are also graduate destinations for those who combine scientific knowledge with communication skills.
